Breastplate of Righteousness
The Breastplate of Righteousness
Knowing we are righteous means we can come into God’s presence, without any shame or condemnation. This helps us stand firm.
Memory verses: Ephesians 2:6, Ephesians 6:13
Thump your chest and practice your best Tarzan style yell. Who’s the best in your household?!
Draw or cut out two heart shapes, one in red and the other in black.
Without Jesus, however hard we try, our hearts stay black – we can’t do anything to clean them! The only way to make our hearts healthy and clean is to say sorry to Jesus for everything we’ve done wrong. Then God cleanses our hearts so that we can be friends with him – this is what righteousness is, being right with God.

Find a quiet place where you can listen to God. Ask him for some ideas about what it might look like to be holy and righteous. Draw a picture of yourself as if you are holy and righteous, sitting in heaven with Jesus. Maybe it’s full of bright sunshine, or your favourite colours? Our memory verse from the Bible today tells us that this is what we are truly like, and even better than we can imagine!
You will need:
- The picture you just drew
- Your red heart from earlier
- 2 pieces of cardboard, one for your back and one for your front
- String or ribbon to tie the cardboard pieces together over your shoulders and at the sides of your waist
Stick your red heart and your picture onto the cardboard.
Make holes in each corner of both pieces of cardboard. Thread your ribbon or string through, and knot into place.
Put on your breastplate of righteousness, and remember that God our Father thinks of us like this all the time, even when our behaviour doesn’t quite match up.
